Hua Hin – Summer Home of Thai Royalty

While foreign tourists flock to Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Koh Samui, Thais – especially well-heeled Thais – favour Hua Hin, which is 230 kilometres southwest of Bangkok. The oldest of Thailand’s beach resorts, Hua Hin was discovered in the 1920s by King Rama VII, who thought it would make an ideal summer getaway from sultry Bangkok. The king had a sprawling residence, called Far from Worries Palace, built in 1928

Kaya Jam

Kaya Toast When I went to Hong Kong a couple years ago, my friend took me to an American equivalent of a coffee shop and ordered me a big cup of hot milk tea and kaya toast sandwich. Kaya (or Sri Kaya) jam is a Malaysian coconut egg jam that’s made from coconut milk, duck or chicken eggs that’s flavored with pandan leaf and sweetened with sugar.

January 20, 2010 – Great Charlottesville Restaurant

Solving all the problems of the world Today, I had lunch with my friend, Anna! We met while working at W&L and now work together at UVa. It’s all part of our master plan – muahaha! We usually meet for Thai food, but to be more in line with some New Year’s resolutions, we met for salads and soups at Feast! Feast! is one of my new favorite restaurants in Cville, even though it’s not new

Restaurants 101

The Celiac literature is full of restaurant advice that is pretty off-putting:  go at off hours, you’re told, tell the maitre’d what your food issues are, see if they’re willing to work with you.  There may have been a time when Celiac was so unheard of that this was actually necessary, but our experience is:  go when you’re hungry; maybe don’t start with something that has “pizza” or “bakery” in the title, but otherwise count on the food service professionals to understand your limitations and work with them

Incident at Munich airport humiliates safety officials

A RECENT ANTI-AIRPORT security demonstration by the Pirate Party at three German airports, in which several dozen young people took off their clothes to express their anger over the imminent introduction of so-called “nude scanners” that can virtually strip air travelers naked at security checkpoints, was based around the slogan “Security is an illusion.” An incident at Munich’s international airport today underscores the truth of that statement. At 3:30 p.m.

Nightlife: Checking in on the Inaugural Rusty Knot Party Bus Ride

Always true to his word, Ken Friedman did indeed roll out the Rusty Knot Party Bus last night, and EV Grieve made sure to stop by the 1st and 1st pickup location only to observe. According to EVG , the bus was two minutes early and attracted twelve revelers, but sadly, “no one was in costume.
