Chef Shuffles: Amanda Freitag: I Put the Harrison Back on the Map

Late in the afternoon on Friday, while most New Yorkers were long gone for Labor Day weekend, Diner’s Journal reported that Amanda Freitag is leaving Tribeca restaurant The Harrison and owner Jimmy Bradley is taking over in the kitchen as he re-negotiates the lease for the space. Presumably, he will succeed in his negotiations, but it’s unclear if the restaurant will live on with the same concept should he re-sign. Bradley has already said he will revamp the menu

Pre-Departure

¡Hola! I am in Spain eventually although my preparation for the year abroad was rather chaotic. I was travelling most of the time when I was in Poland and did not have much time for planning or organizing my accommodation. It would be definitely easier for u if you would look at the flats prior your departure and you can set up the viewings

UniversityTutor Races Past 200 Paying Customers

UniversityTutor.com hit a little milestone this past week: 200 paying tutors! At $10/month each this might not sound like a lot (and it really isn’t) but for me it was pretty cool because this was my original goal for myself way back when I first started the site , more than 2 years ago. In fact, (this is really silly but) during that entire time I’ve had this little stickie note on my computer desktop with that goal written down: When I started I thought it would take maybe 6 months tops to reach this.

alain de botton: on going to the airport

Nowhere is the appeal of the airport more concentrated than in the television screens that hang in rows from terminal ceilings announcing the departure and arrival of flights…Tokyo, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Singapore, Rio. The screens all bear the poetic resonance of the last line of James Joyce’s Ulysses: at once a record of where the novel was written , and, no less importantly, a symbol of the cosmopolitan spirit behind its composition. The constant calls of the screens, some accompanied by the impatient pulsing of a cursor, suggest with what ease our seemingly entrenched lives might be altered were we to walk down a corridor and on to a craft that in a few hours would  land us in a place of which we had no memories and where no one knew our names

Free Phone Calls!

As part of Google’s roll out of Google Voice and Gmail integration, they plan to install these red phone booths across the US in universities and airports. Calls from the booth are free to any number in the world, though Google will post some kind of sign or something asking people to limit the times of their calls if there is a line of people.

The A, B, Cs of finding housing in Singapore

Imagine a room with little ventilation, tiny, albeit relatively clean washroom, air-conditioning that breaks down every three weeks and the lack of a proper kitchen. Honestly speaking, it is hardly the worst housing condition that you might find yourself in, but I think with a reasonable budget, there are tonnes of better housing options. And so after two-and-a-half months of searching, KC finally found a neat little place along Tanjong Katong Road.
