Florent: The documentary about restaurateur Florent Morellet…

The documentary about restaurateur Florent Morellet is debuting later this week, but the MePa icon wants people to stop being so damn nostalgic . He calls complaints about gentrification “‘the whine of middle-class, white people’ who romanticize 1970s and early ’80s New York, when the city’s financial crisis made it cheap for creative people to live and thrive here.” He adds, ” I didn’t move here from bum-f— France to live in a city that has to be frozen at the bottom of its depression.” [NYDN]

The Shutter: Yakitori Torys Shutters to Become Another Ramen Joint

A tipster reports that Yakitori Torys , sister restaurant to Yakitori Totto and the newly opened Totto Ramen , closed over the weekend, adding, “the server claimed that they weren’t making any money and will be a ramen restaurant by next weekend.” Apparently the people of Midtown would rather slurp noodles than chew on chicken bones, because a call to sister Totto confirmed that the four year-old Japanese yakitori spot is indeed shuttered. They’re hoping to get their ramen on within the next two weeks

A new $2.5 million restaurant and nightclub that opened in May in a part of town not previously known for its nightlife is already attracting a major buzz. Each night, the club is packed with a mix of young and affluent, enjoying food and drinks in a room described as “part Beirut, part Dubai, part Miami lounge circa “Scarface,” without the cocaine.” Is it a new club in Midtown?

Movie Monday – June 21 – Flying the Convair 880

SEATTLE — In a continuation of last week’s Movie Monday which took us through the industrial preparations for production of the General Dynamics Convair 880 jetliner, this week’s edition takes us inside the ground and flight testing of the new jet that took place between January 1959 and May 1960. What struck me about this particular promotional film from GD was how much the fundamentals of testing and developing new aircraft haven’t changed that significantly over the last half century. I’d be very curious to hear your thoughts on this as well

More Properties Required

Although this is thought to be holiday season, there is still a huge demand for rental properties in and around the Truro area. I have recently let my properties in Truro and Ponsanooth with both of them attracting huge interest. So much so that if you have a property to let in Ponsanooth please contact me as I have registered tenants who seem to be desperate to find accommodation in this area
