Thomas Jefferson's restored retreat house at Popular Forest I’m back in Washington after my short tour of The Commonwealth (in Virginia, we just call it “The Commonwealth”). Touring Jefferson’s Poplar Forest was just fascinating. He wanted a place he could “read, think and study.” Poplar Forest is a great place to do just that. They are working on further restoring the house and I look forward to visiting again. My wife also bought three boxwood plants that were grown there, which she will plant and attempt to grow at our house (thereby establishing some sort of link between us and Jefferson). I did find myself wondering a little bit what Jefferson might have made of politics and government today. Certainly, he was not in favor of a strong central government (in theory at least, read the story of how we consummated the Louisiana Purchase, all the way up to bluffing Napoleon into thinking he might have to fight a war with the U.S.

Those were our thoughts exactly after reading that Ilyushin 18 aircraft, parked in the Netherlands has been transformed into a deluxe suite complete with a jacuzzi, sauna and 3 flat screen televisions! We just can’t imagine an airplane trip taking a 360 degree twist into an indulgent and enjoyable experience.

Arizona’s new SB 1070 immigration law may be causing more than just an image problem for the southwestern state. Due to the nature of the law, Arizona may lose an approximate $90 million in the next five years, if scheduled groups continue to cancel major conventions, which has occurred since the law’s implementation. BROUGHTON — After the first of two days of technical briefings on the future of Airbus and its product offerings, the spectre of airframer’s lessons learned on the A380 loom large over the coming industrialization of the A350 XWB. With schedule pressures mounting and a three month slide in commencement of final assembly of MSN001, Airbus is trying to avoid the mistakes of the A380 that it continues to pay for today with a slow production ramp pressured by a slowly recovering global economy, but more importantly a fragile supply chain and the complexity of customizing each airline’s cabin. Preparations are well underway from nose-to-tail on the new majority composite twin, from structures, to systems, to interiors, the A350 is rapidly becoming a reality.
