Rynostock 2010: Beers and bands in the Beijing ‘burbs

Note: Click here for a map of The Pomegranate. A couple of weeks ago when people asked if I planned to go to the Strawberry Festival or the Midi Festival or the Blueberry Festival or the Chaoyang Park Festival or whatever music festival, I had a stock answer: I’d rather have a yard of barbed wire

I Just Saw The Future Of Education, And It’s Online

I just came across some really exciting material this weekend.  Apparently the biggest “school” in the world right now is run and taught by one person.  I put school in quotes because it’s not a school in the traditional sense – it is just one guy who started making tutoring videos for his cousins on YouTube.

Burmese Dishes at Yoma

For the longest time, my only experience with Burmese food was at the Golden Triangle Restaurant in Whittier . In fact, for the longest time, it was the only game in town when it came to Burmese food. Slowly, but surely, other players became as prominent and that included Yoma in Monterey Park, so one night, I set up an outing for my dining group to check it out.

Austin, Texas bans travel to Arizona due to SB1070

In the wake of Arizona’s announcement to implement SB1070 this summer, businesses and cities as a whole are boycotting the state in protest. Yesterday, Austin, Texas made it official that it would cut off both business and travel ties with Arizona, since the law requires police to detain people who they suspect may be illegal immigrants. The only travel that is encouraged will be those trips related to police investigations, humanitarian efforts, or for protecting the health and safety of Austin’s citizens.

Vote for the world’s worst public transport system

I often rant about my bus journey to and from work; the buses are rarely on time, the cost is increasing. Last week I travelled down to London, to find that the underground was pretty much closed off. I realise the bank holiday will be quieter but its still a popular time for tourists and locals to visit the city
