A Networking Twist

By Cindy Meyer Original Post at   The Sandbox Blog Yesterday I heard a great speaker at the  Central Exchange on the subject of Networking. I have to admit that I wasn’t looking     forward to another presentation on Networking. It’s about helping others, don’t talk, ask questions, be sincere, don’t sell, plan ahead… all that stuff.

Last Weekend Together in Tampa

Hey y’all!  Hope you’ve had a great couple of weeks.  The hubby and I have moved to Atlanta and are almost finished unpacking.  We just got internet today, which is why I’m finally posting again!  I’ve missed it!   We’re really looking forward to our new place, but will miss all of the great relationships that we’ve built over this past year in Tampa.    Here’s a recap of the last weekend the hubby and I spent in Tampa.  It was a great way to end it.Lately we’ve been getting our place in order, changing our address on all of our stuff, and working on finding a job for me.  I can’t lie that I’ve really enjoyed not going to work, but I know I will need to get back out there soon and I’m hoping to find something that I’ll really enjoy doing.   Here’s the recap of our last weekend….    SATURDAY:     The hubby and I slept in and it was awesome!  I feel like I haven’t done that in ages – always something to get to.  But the hubby and I just rolled with it.  We watched some TV and then finally decided we were hungry and that we’ll just skip ahead to lunch.  Our plan this weekend was to try to get in some last restaurant visits and fun things before we leave Tampa.    Lunch: So lunch was at Datz Foodie’s Market and Loft Bar  - I have heard great things about this place, but had never tried it before.  It’s a gourmet deli/restaurant with a little market to purchase foodie itemslike cheeses, olive oils, gourmet salts and various beers .  The hubby and a few coworkers went there for lunch a while back and raved about it.  When we got there, we had about a 25 min wait.

Neighborhood Beefs: Snack Folks Give in to NIMBYs, Change Barcar to The Arden

For at least the past month, the owners of neighborhood restaurant Snack Taverna have been embroiled in a fight for the survival of their space across the street at Morton and Bedford (originally called Barcar ). There were harsh words, harsher signs, and allegations of barks being worse than bites—never a good sign. To the restaurant’s credit, they just want to get along.

Eating out

We’ve been expanding Koah’s food choices to more and more non-mushed up real foods.  I mostly fed him baby food out of jars for convenience, but now he’s quite insistant on doing it himself and it allows some freedom on my part.  I really try to offer him balanced meals in finger food fashion.  I try to give him a variety at every meal and include lots of vegetables.  For instance, for lunch yesterday, he had black beans with rice, avocado and corn. For dinner, he had steamed brocolli, some cheese, some scrambled egg, and cereal (I still feed him cereal for dinner every night.. fills him up and gets in some extra iron).

Bad Food, Cheap

Yesterday I was with my cousins who were visiting from Illinois, and their son, who lives in Cambridge.  It was great to see them, and we went for lunch to a new place in the area between Porter Square and Harvard Square.  We’ve all done lots of dining out, and the Cambridge resident and I are both cooks — good ones. So there we were, catching up on family news and wanting to have a nice lunch, at a place that turned out to be…just barely mediocre.  A wait-person who wasn’t well-informed or proactive about taking care of us was there, and we were served food that was …food. As I contemplate what I’m making for dinner tonight at our house I’ve got grilled lamb with persillade, grilled vegetables with balsamic glaze, an orzo/wild rice/lentil pilaf, and a salad with feta, red onion, and fresh apricots on the menu.  Plus homemade mint iced tea, and cupcakes with a dark chocolate buttercream for dessert.  The cupcakes are from a box, the buttercream is not.  Not bad.  And not difficult, either.

Funny Timing: Party Poopers at DOH Shutter K! Pizzacone on Day of Review

On the same day that K! Pizzacone , the first name in conical pizza, scored a curious, albeit tepid review from The New Yorker , it was also paid a visit by the DOH . Now a day later, there’s still paper covering the doors to the slim space on 5th Avenue. Restaurant reps report there was a slight electrical problem and that they should be able to reopen by tomorrow or Thursday at the latest.
