A 60-seat Indian-Chinese cafe that will have both indoor and outdoor dining is coming to the Back Bay of Boston later this month. According to a press release from Chris Lyons Communications that was sent to us by Fun and Fearless in Beantown , Mumbai Chopstix will be opening on Newbury Street by the end of March, moving into the space where The Jewel of Newbury used to be (between Fairfield Street and Gloucester Street). Mumbai Chopstix, which will be run by the group behind such restaurants as Bukhara in Jamaica Plain, Diva in Somerville, Mela in the South End, and several other dining spots and stores, will feature dishes that combine Chinese and Indian seasonings, ingredients, and cooking techniques

Bread and Company in Somerville to Become Brunello Bistro
A cafe-style eatery in Somerville that is affiliated with a Brazilian bakery in Everett is in the process of morphing into more of an elegant European-style dining spot. Bread and Company on Broadway (between Magoun Square and East Somerville in the Winter Hill neighborhood) is being renovated and becoming Brunello Bistro, an upscale restaurant focusing a bit more on dinner and offering what appears to be a mix of New American and Italian cuisine, based on information within their website and Facebook page

Flashback: Boeing’s 2012 737 Replacement Study
Once upon a time, before a single 787 barrel had been wrapped, Boeing let itself dream big about the future of the 737. Not to say that the big dreaming stopped, but it was just over taken by the engineering need on 787 and a massively growing 737 backlog between 2006-2008 that pushed the need for a replacement to the early part of the next decade.

A Belizean Sense of Place (Visiting Blogger to Belize Documents Her Stay at Ka’ana)
All our favorite trips have the same thing in common: We return home with the sense that something foreign has now become familiar. Staying at Ka’ana Boutique Resort , with its focus on sustainability and cultural authenticity, helped me feel this way about the entire country of Belize . Set in the jungly Cayo District near the scruffy, bustling town of San Ignacio, Ka’ana is the first luxury spa resort in Western Belize

FAA Bill Nears Vote in Senate
The U.S. Senate has brought the FAA reauthorization bill to the floor. We still have a ways to go before the bill is voted on by the full Senate, and before a conference with the House yields final legislation that can be signed into law by President Obama. But I feel like we are as close as we’ve been since this process started more than three years and eight extensions ago. FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt made an excellent argument in his speech to FAA’s annual Forecast Conference on the need to invest in aviation infrastructure, and John Infanger , one of the best aviation journalists, wrote an excellent blog on the same subject. For the life of me, I just can’t understand those who say the correct response to our air transportation challenges is to reduce our investment in infrastructure. Just doesn’t make sense. The purpose of air transportation is to move people and products to destinations and markets. When I worked in state government helping the governor sell Virginia as a place to do business, that was always a big selling point – and businesses responded (400,000 jobs were created in Virginia during those four years). It has been a fact of economic life since the earliest days of human existence: when you can transport goods and people to destinations and markets, you promote economic activity and job creation. Economic activity and job creation place even more pressure on the transportation system. When you improve your infrastructure, more jobs are created, and it goes on and on throughout the entirety of human existence. Those who argue otherwise might as well argue against the laws of physics. This bill will lead to the creation of more than 360,000 jobs over its life (assuming the House provision on the Passenger Facility Charge is accepted in conference); and the preservation of tens of thousands more. By improving our infrastructure and by improving air traffic control, it will make our economy more efficient and help the environment. And, because the airport grant program is already paid for and the PFC user fee is a local fee, spent and collected locally, all this will be accomplished without increasing the federal deficit. We can leave our children and grandchildren an air transportation system worthy of the 21st century that will promote job creation and opportunity for them, and leave them a cleaner environment. And, we can do this without adding to their debt burden. Man, I’d like to be a politician delivering THAT speech to my constituents after having voted for this bill.

Not Just Rice and Beans (Visiting Blogger to Belize Shares a Highlight of Her Trip)
A big highlight and memorable moment for me was hanging out in the kitchen of Ka’ana Boutique Resort with the personable, talented and passionate Chef Sean Kuylen (pronounced kwee-ln), born and raised in Belize. With the bubbly enthusiasm of a little boy, he was bouncing around the compact space wanting to show me the ingredients he was using, tell me about his ideas for future dishes and have me taste a bit of this and and that.
