Hot Dog Sampling at the Slaw Dogs

For the past month, I’ve been hearing a slow buzz about a new hot dog joint called The Slaw Dogs . I finally decided to Google it and see what the fuss was about. When I read about the unique ingredients that made up their Specialty Slaw Dogs, I was intrigued and when I found out that The Slaw Dogs was in Pasadena, a mere 15-20 minutes away from me, my mind was made up.

Photo of the Day: Shapes and Deception

As a traveller I am constantly on the lookout for the unusual to photograph. This could be in the shape of buildings, objects or in some cases, animals and humans. I particularly like the fusion of different shapes that tend to feed-off each other and produce unique compositions.

Things I Learned From Being a Cupcake Judge at the Drink:Eat:Play Cupcake Challenge

Thanks to an invitation from Dan Silberstein of Drink:Eat:Play Events , I got to be a Cupcake Judge for the 2010 Cupcake Challenge where 24 Cupcakeries offered 40 different cupcakes to win the hearts (and votes) of all the attendees. Having done the LA Chevy Cupcake Tour last December where 4 whole cupcakes almost did me in, I definitely wasn’t sure how I was going to survive 40 mini ones and in the end, I actually only sampled 38. My method was simply to take one bite, write down some comments to myself and then move on to the next one

Introducing…The Dim Sum Food Truck

We all knew it had to happen sometime. With the proliferation of food trucks popping up left and right and having some pretty darn good dim sum restaurants in San Gabriel Valley, it was only a matter of time that those two thing would combine to form the Dim Sum Food Truck, owned and operated by Alex Chu. In February, I was part of a group of bloggers and other food truck owners who got invited to sample some of the tasty offerings from Alex’s new venture

ZA004 plays testbed for latest V5.5 787 software

I’ve received about a dozen emails this week asking me what ZA004 has been up to since its February 25th first flight. Here’s the latest : After its ferry flight to Boeing Field, the aircraft has had additional instrumentation installed and has spent this week acting as a testbed for the Wedge V5.5 “service-ready” software load, which includes updates to the flight control module (FCM) which holds the fly-by-wire software and control laws. Boeing has been doing “regression testing” to tease the last bugs out of the system since Wednesday, March 10

Rock’s Tavern Opens in Middleton

A family-friendly restaurant has opened in Middleton, moving into the spot where an upscale eatery was for 10 years before closing last summer. According to their Facebook page, Rock’s Tavern on Route 114 opened around the beginning of the month, and appears to be serving dinner only, at least for now (a note on their Facebook page indicates that they are open daily starting at 4:00 PM, but that those hours are subject to change). Rock’s Tavern replaces Gavens Restaurant, a dining spot that first opened in 1999, and which was known in part for having more than 3,000 bottles of wine available
