A glimpse at Prague

Prague In a whirl of history and architectural marvels, Prague sweeps travelers off their feet with its picturesque rooftops, rich festival culture and religious accent and construction. This place can’t be seen in a day, so take your time and ease into the stunning Czech traditions one by one. A striking hybrid of Gothic, Renaissance, art nouveau and baroque, Prague certainly fits the frame, but does much more in person.

Chilling out in Taba Egypt

Karen recently spent a week in Taba , on the shores of the Red Sea – “Taba is a great place for chilling out for a week or two in the sun – there’s very little there apart from some exceptionally nice hotels, mostly situated on the beach, a dive centre and great weather, perfect! We spent a week at the newest hotel in Taba Heights , the 5* Intercontinental, which is an excellent hotel with a great tapas bar on the lagoon, and did a trip to Petra and a trip to Cairo from there, although I would quite happily have done nothing for the week! I think there will be more hotels there in the next few years as it is a purpose-built resort that is growing quickly, so if you are looking for peace and quiet now is the time to go! My friend and I tried our hand at snorkeling, which is fantastic in the Red Sea , and most people there were raving about the diving and reeling off the names of the fish they had seen.

Congestion Pricing, PFCs and Blogging

Earlier this week, I was interviewed by Paul Plack of the Aero-News Network to get the airport’s reaction to the July 13 federal court decision which upheld a Transportation Department rule that gives airports the flexibility to use congestion pricing as one tool to reduce flight delays.  Download the ANN Podcast .   In the interview, I also explained that the airlines position on raising the ceiling on the maximum Passenger Facility Charge to $7 just doesn’t make sense. He noted that that the airlines are better off financially when capital improvements to an airport are financed by PFC-back bonds instead of including the costs of the improvement into the airline’s rate base.  During the course of the interview, Paul also asked me about blogging so I shared some thoughts on writing this column over the last two years.

Cheap Las Vegas Weekend Getaway

Las Vegas is often referred to as “Lost Wages” for a reason: Most who visit to win big often lose bigger.  Despite Vegas’ keen ability to empty its visitor’s wallets, the former pioneer trail town and current self-proclaimed Entertainment Capital of the World can be an affordable weekend getaway destination if you play your cards right. My one-stop, Continental flight from Boston was $270 RT, and JetBlue and other carriers fly non-stop for under $500 RT.  Stopping on your way to Vegas can be fine, but having to switch planes on your way back after a long red-eye can induce suffering for obvious reasons – plan accordingly.
