Laurel’s Pick of Places to Go – Orleans Distillery

Like Southern Blues music?  Never heard it but wanted to sample it?  Try the Orleans Distillery!  In this detailed Riverfront build by Gospel Voom is a Blues joint for couples or singles.  The huge copper kettles used for making the booze served here is a very nice touch as well as the vents in the floor with steam rising from them.  Fantastic atmosphere for a down home southern dancing venue!  Just outside and to the left down the dock you can view the riverboat Natchez, you can walk aboard and try your luck with one of the games on the boat or just admired this lovely boat.  Just across the River is the New Orleans Blues sim which is very detailed and perfect for a walk about to take in the sights.   http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mississippi/214/239/22/

Packing Tip #11 and #12

#11 If you are traveling with your spouse or a close friend I recommend cross-packing. This means that you pack half of your personal things and half of your travel companion’s things in your luggage and pack the other half of both of your things in their luggage. Since there is always the chance that the airline may lose your luggage you will have much better odds with this packing method to at least end up with some of your stuff!! #12 To help save room when traveling with children, I suggest packing your kid’s shoes inside adult shoes.

Laurel’s Pick of Places to Go – Blarney Stone Irish Bar

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Dublin/80/80/25/ The Blarney Stone is one of my most favorite places in Second Life.  Join the group to get notice of events all over all the Dublin sims!  Frequent events range from coffee hours for chat and meeting new friends to DJ and live music events beamed from Ireland and England.  A very friendly staff and regulars will make you feel at home in no time at all.  Most conversations take place in general chat so you can jump right in….instead of just sitting there while everyone else talks via IM.  A cozy atmosphere and Guiness on tap just makes this place even better. If you are new to Second Life it’s an especially nice first hangout as the crowd is easy to talk to so you won’t be a stranger long.  If you are looking for a “meat market” atmosphere, look elsewhere as rude, obnoxious people can be ganged up on by regulars with razor sharp wit.  If you want a place where you will be treated with respect and friendship then look no further.  I like to drop in while waiting for Del to log in as it is one place I do feel quite safe from being hassled in Second Life. If it should happen, I have plenty of back up. *smiles*  The crowd here isn’t only Irish but frequented by others from all over the UK and Europe plus plenty of Americans.  Stop in at the Blarney for a pint or two and do take a walkabout the Dublin sims and soak up the scenery, they are quite lovely and detailed.

Laurel’s Picks of Places to Go – Tryline Sports Bar

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Dublin%202/140/94/25/ Tryline Sports Bar, one of the many social locations in the Dublin Sims is the newest pub.  Decorated all in a sports theme down to the dance ball football (soccer ball) and billards table!  Many events held here weekends and weekdays alike!  Join the group list at the Blarney Stone to get notice of events in all of the Dublin sims.  Today the wonderful DJ Shayla Juran was here spinning her tunes and she always does such a fabulous job!  Hoooo!  Hostess Annutte Frankfurter provided a friendly atmosphere…pronouce her name as “A-Nut”.  No lag at all and the music stream never stopped, got to love that in a SL social hot spot! Dress has been casual on my visits and there are no couple dances available here so easy for a single to mingle in.  The crowd was super friendly and I recognized many faces from The Blarney Stone and Fibber Magees as well as some fresh ones mixed in.  Thank you DJ Shayla and Hostess Anutte for a great time!

Is this "Democracy"? You get what you deserve! 27 days have passed and counting.

Project Promoting Polyarchy in place in Pakistan has been completed. An illiterate population, an obsequious and partisan press, a bigoted leadership and gaggle of self-centered politicians who believe in “Cest Le estat me moi” ( I am the state) are now all working for profit and their Swiss bank accounts. God helps tholeader of the PMLNse who help themselves. The Quran says, God will not change the condition of a people, ’till they change themselves

Adventures are About Choice

When you chose this type of vacation, it’s all about choice.  First of all you must choose your destination.  Perhaps you have read about a place in school and you have always thought that you wanted to go there and explore and experience everything that you read about in a book.  Perhaps you saw a documentary on TV about a faraway place and you thought that you would like to go there to experience more about this destination. First of all, to start planning your trip, you have to choose the destination or at least narrow it down to a few places that you would like to go.  You should search on the internet to see if there are any travel companies which offer tours to these places.  These companies usually understand your destination and have organized tours of small groups of people of like minded types who also share a fondness for adventure.

Packing Tip #9

My 2nd favorite packing mantra is this: “Pack half as much as you think, but bring twice as much money!” It is completely possible to pack light if you choose your items well! I never bring stuff that I don’t wear at home. Chances are it will sit in your suitcase the same way it hangs in your closet! I also like to stick to either blacks or browns, this cuts down on the number of shoes you have to carry and keeps your luggage from getting too heavy! Don’t forget that accessories, such as, scarves and jewelry help create the illusion of more outfits and take up very little room! Also, I usually find that traveling tends to cost more than you budget for… meaning there are always more things that you’d like to do and more souveneirs that you’d like to bring home! If possible bring more money than you initally planned for because it’s no fun going home wishing you had done something or remorsing over a gift you couldn’t bring back!

Ross, while currently search engines might get you close to where you want to go, to use the librarian-as-travel agent comparison, it’s as if an online travel site were to drop you off 100 miles from your intended destination a week before you wanted to get there. That is *close*, but not *close enough* for most people. My point was that we still have (a little) time left before the accuracy of search engines, and the data available to them, improves to where they really can get *close enough* for most of our patrons

The fact of the matter is that it’s impossible for me include our precious resources for anything useful, while including Google, Yahoo and Amazon was a piece of cake. The best I can hope to give our users from our collection are links to lists of databases or subject guides; without considerable work on my part and the librarians all I can hope to get them is a generic link to all of our databases or a list of subject guides…. At this point it’s important for us to empower the user; not with arcane searching techniques in hard to find resources, but by leveraging our systems so they can be integrated easily into wherever the user is looking and by exposing our content and services in ways that fit into the user’s sphere of control and comfort

Macaroni Grill: Sign Up and Save

A hearty ~~ THANK YOU~~ goes to Jill of Frugal Plus for posting about this!  I love Macaroni Grill!  And while it isn’t exactly cheap eats, it is (in my humble opinion) good eats.  So, a couple times a year (when I’m already in Greensboro), I sneak over and indulge.
