Back to the City – Antalya, Antalya, Turkey
Jump to the full entry & travel map Antalya, Antalya, Turkey Yesterday was a very productive day. We got out to the field with only a little light creeping over the horizon. I had to stop off to make a brief call home, and when I returned to the site, I was informed that we had 11 barn swallows! This was unexpected, as swallows generally fly high in the mornings and only swoop low enough during their feeding later in the day to encounter our nets.

There were the times when our requirements were very small and even 40 GB internal hard drives were sufficient for all day to day operations, but now you can have 1TB hard drives for your PC that provides Tera bytes of storage capacity. As rise in variety of the internal hard drives it’s really became difficult for the buyers to decide on the particular hard drive for their system

Single White Girls Wanted @ The Kama Sutra Temples – Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, India
Jump to the full entry & travel map Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, India Nadine caught the swine flu symptoms for a couple of days but we enjoyed our last bit of time in Varanasi lounging around the ghats, making conversation with spiritual types, saying our good-byes to our new friends and buying them gifts, sitting around with threads tied to our toes making macrame jewellery and doing a lulu hair wrap dreadlock extension workshop. We each learned to put a dreadlock extension in each other’s hair then cut it out when it was finished.

Eating soup on a rollercoaster – Bangkok, Thailand
Jump to the full entry & travel map Bangkok, Thailand Just a quick update to say friday was a bit of a nothing day because we didn’t want to get to hot and sweaty before going to the train station. So we mostly chilled out at the hotel playing pool and doing some research on what to do in Chiang Mia. We headed to the train station with loads of time to spare and got a little base set-up so one of us could wander off and the other watch the bags, so we didn’t have to crash into people all the time

Day 7 quick update, more to come! – Sodus, New York, United States
Jump to the full entry & travel map Sodus, New York, United States Distance: 36 miles We’re in our tents tonight cause it’s raining and mosquito-y out, yuck! We don’t know what the Gatorade count is right now because Emily is the official counter and she’s in her own tent. As for Alexis’s bike she ended up needing to replace 10 spokes! The bike place we went to, Murdock’s, as this really great philosophy about people traveling on bikes get free things! So they gave us the spokes for free, and took the free wheel off and offered to do the wheel but Dave and the girls wanted to do it. So we didn’t get on the road until 11:27 this morning, a late start but we think we did a good job anyway.

Bar Restaurant al Giardinetto near the Grand Canal
In the good season, when you walk along the Rio della Frescada in the San Polo area of Venice (this canal is just a few meters from the Grand Canal and acting as natural borderline beween the sestiere of San Polo and the sestiere of Dorsoduro) you cannot miss to take a fantastic drink in one of the few outdoor tables of this cosy bar - restaurant. The tree and the light breeze (rio della frescada means “breeze canal”!) will complete this fantastic drink breake in Venice. This fantastic and romantic place is just a few steps from Venice Attic where you can rent the luxury apartment for your Venice holiday (more info at veniceattic@gmail.com and in this blog “Accomodation” category)

It’s My Birthday, so I’ll Blog if I Want to…
Adrienne Irmer, NBC Chicago Street Team Actually, my birthday was last weekend, August 15th, but I was waiting on some pictures from the event photographer to include. As you can well tell, it was quite an affair, but believe me the planning involved would not have been so easy if it weren’t for the venue’s staff and event promoters that evening. If you have ever tried to plan a birthday, bachelorette or new promotion party at a night club, it’s not as easy as one thinks

One Speed, Many Smiles
I’ve been an East Sacramentan for eight years now so we’ve seen quite a few restaurants come and go in the neighborhood. It was bittersweet when Café Milazzo went out of business a couple years ago – it was a casual and comfortable space with friendly service but the food was lacking. We did enjoy $2 Tuesdays when you could get $2 slices of pizza and $2 beers. Little did I know I was in for much, much better pizza within those walls years later… Ever since I heard Rick Mahan, chef/owner of the Waterboy , was opening a new restaurant, I’ve been dying to try it. The store front was wrapped in brown paper for what felt like years. Finally, One Speed Restaurant opened last month and apparently I wasn’t the only one who had been anticipating that great day. We tried three different times to dine at the fully remodeled restaurant space (Café Milazzo diners will be shocked at the transition) but each time we were told it would be a 45-minute wait – just something we can’t do right now with a toddler and an infant even though the atmosphere is absolutely kid appropriate. Therefore, we’ve done takeout twice until our most recent attempt last Sunday, which happened to be our sixth wedding anniversary. We were told again it would be a 45-minute wait and we decided to place our order to go yet again. While we were waiting, my husband had the great idea to entertain our two-year old with a walk down to Burr’s (East Sac’s neighborhood ice cream parlor featuring Vic’s ice cream) to pick up ice cream to go for dessert. Upon the boys return, the one table in the bar opened up and the amazingly friendly staff sat us and served the gnocchi with browned butter and sage (a well-portioned appetizer perfectly cooked for melt-in-your-mouth potato pillows in my favorite decadent sauce), plus the two pizzas (classic Margherita and Rick’s – potato, caramelized onions, pancetta, goat cheese, olives and arugula, OMG) we had ordered piping hot. The ambience, the service, and the food were well worth the wait (the years and the minutes) and we look forward to having One Speed in the neighborhood for many years to come. Enter the Cloudberry Zone
Former Traveler Photo Intern Jenn Blatty files this report for IT from northern Sweden: The Swedes are ahead of the game when it comes to exploring the outdoors and taking advantage of their natural surroundings. In the northern city of Sundsvall where I’ve been staying the past few weeks, I have yet to meet locals who don’t know how to pick their own berries and mushrooms from the surrounding forests to prepare into jams, wines, or butters in their own homes. And when I say everyone, I mean even the city-dwellers (although the younger generation may not admit it)

Jump to the full entry & travel map Yamok, East Sepik, Papua New Guinea After a good breakfast, we met Albert, our guide for the next two days. We left our bags and passports at the Wewak Boutique Hotel, then piled into a double-cab truck: Paul next to the driver; me and the kids in the second seat; Albert and Chris (another guide) in the open back. We were quickly outside of town – I had been amazed by the lack of road signs on all the roads around PNG.

Chelsea Girls
Good morning, ladies and gentleman! I am SO excited for today. It’s Friday, I slept in, I have the next three days off work, and my little red-headed friend has come home !!! It’s going to be a great weekend. What do you have planned? Yesterday I experimented a little with my breakfast. I had a lot of leftover rice in the fridge that I wanted to get rid of… I often make too much of things like grans and beans, and they end up going bad. Anyway, I decided to try making a breakfast cookie with rice ! 1/3 cup cooked brown rice 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder 1/2 banana 2 T skim milk 1 T PB2 toppings: cinnamon, dried apricots, dried cherries, 1 walnut This was actually pretty good! It ended up being a lot creamier than the cookies made with oats. I would definitely make it again… don’t you love coming up with new uses for leftovers?
