Guest Houses, Inns and Hotels in Northern Spain
Northern Spain and Galicia offer an exceptional variety of visitor accommodation. Accommodation can be found that will fit all forms of budgets and even the most particular tourists will find something to suit their particular needs. If it is luxury that you are after then the best advice should be to head straight for the exclusive hotels and “Paradors” but to be honest even the basic family “casas rurales” are extremely good value for money.

Leaving on a Jet Plane…
Well, it’s finally here! Leaving later today to fly to Fort Lauderdale and then off to the Western Caribbean tomorrow on NCL’s Jewel. I am so excited! And getting out of here just in time, they are calling for snow tonite! We are staying at the Comfort Inn South, Cruiseport in Fort Lauderdale tonite. They have a good deal – they will pick us up at the Fort Lauderdale airport (complimentary) and take us back to the hotel for one night there. Breakfast in the morning and then they have a shuttle that will take us to the Port of Miami. All included in the price of the hotel room and the cost was actually less than if I had booked the shuttle to Miami separately! If we were cruising out of Fort Lauderdale, the shuttle to the port would be complimentary. This hotel is a great place to stay if you come into town early for your cruise. I am really looking forward to this cruise. It is my PhD@Sea cruise. I know, you have no idea what that is. Well, each cruise line has their own ‘university’ that you attend to learn more about their cruises and they also give valuable information on sales, marketing and that sort of thing that will help to grow your business. Some cruise lines either give you a free or reduced cruise so that you can experience what it is like to cruise on their ships. Some will give you an inside cabin or reduce the cost of one of the upper class cabins, some will give you a balcony cabin. NCL gives you a balcony cabin for a reduced cost. Yes, we have to take additional classes while we are cruising but that is only on the days that we are at sea and only for part of the day. One thing that NCL includes on these PhD@Sea cruises is a behind the scenes tour of the ship. That should prove to be very interesting! We get to go into the kitchen, laundry room, up to the bridge… all the places that you don’t normally see when you cruise. NCL just started offering these tours for an extra cost to everyone, will let you know if it is worth the cost! There is quite a group of us going on this cruise and can hardly wait to meet everyone who will be there on this PhD@Sea! This cruise is on the Jewel. We are going to the Western Caribbean and will have port stops at Roatan, Honduras; Belize; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Great Stirrup Cay (pronounced ‘Key’). Looking forward to the shore excursions – there are lots of things to do at each stop! Since I have never been to any of these places, I will definitely be taking some of the excursions. I always recommend that you only take shore excursions that are either offered through the cruise line or on a reputable company that your travel agent can find for you. Don’t just walk off the ship and take an excursion with someone who is waiting at the docks, you never know what could happen. Yes, some people have been very lucky and found a great excursion for a very inexpensive price, but think about it people, this is a foreign country and you never know what could happen to you while you were on this excursion! You want to make sure that they are certified by their country to give these tours and have everything that is necessary for you to have a nice visit to their country and return safely to the ship. The cruise lines check out the tours and contract with the best to give you the best tour there. And the best thing is that if you take a tour that is offered by the ship and you are late getting back to the ship, they won’t leave without you! Well, I think that I have gone on enough for now. Hopefully I will be blogging along the way on this trip. Check out Two Sisters Travel on Facebook too, I will try to post pictures and video there

My City Celebrates: Abigail’s Toulouse
This year, inspired by our ever-popular “I Heart My City” series on Intelligent Travel, we’re kicking off the holiday season by asking our readers to share their favorite ways to celebrate in their cities. Today’s city-lover is travel writer Abigail King of the Inside the Travel Lab blog, giving us a glimpse of Toulouse (which she reminds us is the fourth largest city in France). What to share the things that make your city special

It’s 6 p.m., time to put aside our differences
Last night, ACI-NA held its annual holiday party. We invite folks from the North American Airport community, as well as people from across the entire spectrum of the Washington-based aviation community. It is annually seen as the official kick-off of the holiday season for the aviation community. Three observations: First, I have worked on Capitol Hill, in state government, for a presidential commission, in the non-profit sector and in the private sector. I have NEVER been around an industry that has so many smart people who are so able to see the big picture as what I have found in the airport business. It is amazing, really. I have been fortunate in my career to have worked for, with, and around some really smart and capable people. But as a group, those who lead airports in the United States and Canada (airport directors, their staffs and their boards) are second to none as a group in combining capability and vision. I should say that these traits are present in abundance in the global airport industry as well. Second, I was once told by the smartest person I’ve ever been around (former Virginia Governor Gerald L. Baliles) that the secret to leadership is to hire people smarter than you, set the tone and direction, and then let them do their thing. Having been away from the office for several weeks on business trips, attending my sister’s funeral and then recovering from hip replacement, has given me a deep appreciation for the team we have at ACI-NA. Governor Baliles once told me that if you have to be away and you are always worried about what is happening in the office then you have the wrong people. I have never had to worry, not for one minute. And going in yesterday for the first time since the surgery, to attend a board meeting and the holiday party, I could see from a whole different perspective the talent, dedication and passion of the staff we have at ACI-NA. They are the best; worthy of an industry that deserves the best. Finally, I was struck at the party that people who spend lots of time every day between 9 a.m

Trip Lit: Stones Into Schools
In our December Trip Lit column, Don George reviews Greg Mortenson’s new book, Stones Into Schools , the follow-up to his best-selling Three Cups of Tea . In it, Mortenson recounts his efforts to build schools, particularly girl’s schools, in the rural regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. ” Stones into Schools reminds us that every day in these fractured countries, people carry on their lives under unimaginably difficult circumstances with dignity, warmth, grace, faith, and hope,” George writes.

More Restaurant Openings: Robinwood Cafe and Grille, Olde Boston Cafe
It looks like a couple more dining spots will be coming to Boston, though very little information can be found on either place at the present time. According to EveryBlock Boston , the Robinwood Cafe and Grille will be moving into the spot in Jamaica Plain that was formerly occupied by Planet Pizza . A regular poster on the Chowhound site mentions that the new restaurant moving into the space at 536 Centre Street has booths and hardwood floors and will be serving breakfast and lunch, with dinner possibly offered as well.

The North Pole: Christmas in the new Sanlitun Village
- Considering Sanlitun Village North is far from being fully open, the management has gone all out on the seasonal decorations: a digit Christmas tree, a building decorated as though it were a wrapped gift, glowing sculptures of polar bears and penguins, and illuminated stars and snow flakes. I popped into the mall itself and found

Do You Feel Like A Princess?
I certainly did during my inspection cruise on the Sapphire Princes. As a travel professional, I’ve chosen to learn mostly about cruising. I have to know all about ships, learn which ones have what amenities and what clients would be best suited for each kind or brand of ship. From ocean cruising, river cruising, barges, paddle wheelers, luxury, premium, contemporary, how many passengers each one holds, what ports do they visit, which ones are really “all inclusive”, what works better for children, honeymooners, seniors, young adults, weddings, adventurers, golfers, the handicapped, explorers…everyone has their own idea of a “dream” cruise and it’s my pleasure to make that dream come true. So, one of the designations I have after passing all the tests and answering all the questions correctly, is achieving the rank of Commodore with Princess Cruises. The “perk” for succeeding at that was a graduation cruise on one of their ships

Mexico’s Garden of Art
Sabina Lohr took a break from touristy Cancún , Mexico, and learned that getting off the beaten path is only a few steps away. Just a short ferry hop from Cancún, Mexico, colorful Isla Mujeres is an spot where day-trippers commonly escape for a while from their all-inclusive hotel vacations in the mainland’s hotel zone. This tiny island boasts gorgeous beaches, friendly people, and great little Mexican restaurants.
