Thank you to them, I’ll have proof that I was the village chief for a day!

The Road to Mandalay day 2 — Kalaw, Shan State, Myanmar
Jump to the full entry & travel map Kalaw, Shan State, Myanmar Day 2 Kalaw – fabulous hotel A real sublime to ridiculous day. Stopped to photograph agrarian workers with their bullock carts and exchanged greetings across the fields – my Burmese is already twice as good as my Thai, i.e 4 words of Burmese – it was a really joyful experience. Drove one and a half hours on the concrete dual carriageway to the new capital (the name of which escapes me) and saw 6 other cars – in both directions, about a dozen motor bikes, no buses, no lorries, 2 tankers watering the saplings down the central reservation and gangs of workers building a foot high retaining wall for said reservation and painting it white and red.
