A whodoinit: The Rickshaw under construction

The Rickshaw is under construction and there is a whodoinit vibe surrounding the project: No one seems to know who has scooped up this space, which apparently has a rent of RMB800,000 per year and is nicely located across from the new Soho and at the crossroads of Sanlitun north and south. Rooftop club in Beijing: Anyone know more about this place?

Went to a friend’s place last night to help eat four kilos of ham just imported from Italy – not to mention guzzle lots of bruschetta, pasta, wine, and grappa — and saw this rooftop club from the apartment window. It is between Fortune Plaza and the new China World Tower Three, and is apparently

Hell or Whitney Houston? 260-room Music Box opens beneath Ritan Park

On my way to Phil’s Pub last night, I passed a massive glowing red facade that could be only one of two things: 1) The Ritan Park portal to the depths of Hell or 2) the entrance to a 260-room subterranean KTV. Then again, some people might consider these one and the same.

Queen’s in Sanlitun Village: From Russia via Hong Kong with love

If you have walked between Karaiya Spice House and Ganges Indian Restaurant on the third floor of Sanlitun Village, you have likely seen a yet-to-open spot called Queen’s Konditorei. I popped my head in earlier this week to find what looked like a nearly finished coffee shop with a staircase to a second floor. The

Rynostock 2010: Beers and bands in the Beijing ‘burbs

Note: Click here for a map of The Pomegranate. A couple of weeks ago when people asked if I planned to go to the Strawberry Festival or the Midi Festival or the Blueberry Festival or the Chaoyang Park Festival or whatever music festival, I had a stock answer: I’d rather have a yard of barbed wire

Job opening in Beijing: Union Bar & Grille seeks bartenders, more

Beijinger restaurant awards unofficial results: Maison Boulud, Da Dong on top

Here are the unofficial results of the seventh annual The Beijinger restaurant awards, held this afternoon at Joy Luck. A Belizean Sense of Place (Visiting Blogger to Belize Documents Her Stay at Ka’ana)

All our favorite trips have the same thing in common:  We return home with the sense that something foreign has now become familiar.  Staying at Ka’ana Boutique Resort , with its focus on sustainability and cultural authenticity, helped me feel this way about the entire country of Belize . Set in the jungly Cayo District near the scruffy, bustling town of San Ignacio, Ka’ana is the first luxury spa resort in Western Belize

Not Just Rice and Beans (Visiting Blogger to Belize Shares a Highlight of Her Trip)

A big highlight and memorable moment for me was hanging out in the kitchen of Ka’ana Boutique Resort with the personable, talented and passionate Chef Sean Kuylen (pronounced kwee-ln), born and raised in Belize.  With the bubbly enthusiasm of a little boy, he was bouncing around the compact space wanting to show me the ingredients he was using, tell me about his ideas for future dishes and have me taste a bit of this and and that.

Twilight cocktail bar: 360 degrees of drinking pleasure

- What makes a strong drink at Twilight so appealing is that you truly need one after navigating that SNAFU known as Jianwai Soho to get there. The continued lack of prominent signage at Chez Legoland amazes me, especially since the powers-that-be decided it smart to have a villa number 5 and a building number five
