Bangkok to Laos – Luang Prabang
4th March I woke early on Australian time, but my early start wasn’t necessary; checkout was smooth (and a pleasant surprise that they hadn’t charged me for the breakfast, dinner or drink because I had arrived late the night before!), a taxi was readily available and then the drive there was at over 100km/h! A little disconcerting, but the traffic was light and he seemed to be in control. Before and after check-in, I could take in the amazing Suvarnabhumi airport, which I hadn’t when I arrived. It is a beautiful building with huge windows and massive pieces of what I assume is fabric reflecting upward-pointing lights back down to the clean white floors and metal railings

Back from SxSW
TravelManager has just spent the past week in Austin, Texas at the SxSW conference and its been great fun! As expected there was lots of activity in the social media space as well as in Mobile – two sectors TravelManager is working hard in. An interesting stat which passed our way whilst there was that there will soon be more Mobile Internet users in China than there are people in the USA. That is an impressively huge amount of people surfing the Internet on their mobiles – and a lot of people who are climbing up the social ladder looking for holidays etc.

One great idea and one good cause
Yesterday afternoon I went to the annual spring lunch of a company called Travel PR – for those not in the know they are, you guessed it, a travel public relations company that mainly specialises in small, independent and often quirky travel companies. Their client list includes the Association of Independent Tour Operators ( www.aito.co.uk ), Kirker Holidays ( www.kirkerholidays.com ), Sunvil ( www.sunvil.co.uk ), Voyages Jules Verne ( www.vjv.co.uk ) and many more… but it was two newish clients that really caught my eye. One is a company that is just launching called Get Back To Me.

Should you use a travel agent?
Over the last decade or more, there has been much talk about travel agencies competing with the internet for travel bookings. While purchasing directly from a tour operator, cruise line or airline is certainly an alternative, it is important for a traveler to understand how to best use the different resources, namely their travel professional and the World Wide Web.

Low-Environmental-Impact Vacation at Selva Bananito Lodge
Posted by freelance: In a country like Costa Rica where promises of green living are abundant, it is sometimes unfortunate to know that some of these hotels and trip organizers are just telling people something that they really cannot fulfill. It does not actually surprise me why some of these companies still tend to advertise their supposedly green agenda–it’s a Tags: selva bananito lodge , environmental lodges . Comments: 0.
