The North Pole: Christmas in the new Sanlitun Village
- Considering Sanlitun Village North is far from being fully open, the management has gone all out on the seasonal decorations: a digit Christmas tree, a building decorated as though it were a wrapped gift, glowing sculptures of polar bears and penguins, and illuminated stars and snow flakes. I popped into the mall itself and found
A new Country Music club has opened in Second Life called the Roadhouse. I attended the grand opening this morning and feel it will become the #1 Country Bar in Second Life! Friendly people, good music and so much to do in just one location. The music is Country/Country Rock/Southern Rock without the full sets of rap, metal or hip hop you can find at some other country venues, which puts it ahead of some of the larger clubs already in this genre like Southern Oasis. The sim has available quality shopping, 7 Seas Fishing, bull riding, swimming in a pool with a big ole curly slide, contests, cars you can drive around as you explore and more! It’s not just a pub but a whole entertainment zone. The line dances here are a bit different as you sit on a “hat” spot on the floor then click on a much larger hat floating above the dance floor to animate, but once going the dances operated quite smoothly except I had a problem stopping dancing as reclicking the floating hat didn’t help. A relog did fix the problem, however. On a second visit, the dances worked smoothly and stopped just fine.
As a redhead, if I get even slightly embarrassed my face flushes like a ripe tomato. Tonight I think I’m going to spend most of the evening looking like I’m ready to top some pasta.
Apothecary Cocktails & Dining: Expect Satan’s Whiskers, Sazeracs, and New Orleans cooking
- Expect to find everything from Satan’s Whiskers to Algonquins among the cocktails on offer at Apothecary: Cocktails and Dining when it opens just down from Mosto (map) in Nali Studio in about a week (I will post the opening date when it is confirmed). The dog-legged space is light and spartan but homey, with white
A great place to check out is the Southern Oasis! No, Del it isn’t all country music. They do have the best line dances in SL and I say that as a person that doesn’t normally line dance at all…these I do. Music here varies as to DJs, with DJs working from early morning to late at night so Euro and UK friendly hours as well as American time. Most often you hear Classic Rock, Southern Rock or Country but DJ Lindsay has a hip hop set here too if you enjoy that. The crowd is very friendly and the line dances allow you to jump right in and start having fun. The red dots are for the ladies and the black for the gentlemen so couples can dance together or you can dance solo. Intan dances also available for couples. A full service bar for hanging out at or to sit at while waiting for a friend to arrive. Southern Oasis runs contest nearly every shift and they are proportional to win so even a few votes can win you a linden prize quite often. The contest theme was Winter Wonderland on my visit. You will need a Southern Oasis VIP tag to enter the contests and vote in them. You can also catch some live music programs here. A new singer, Jewell is one not to miss at the Oasis! Definately worth a visit if you are looking for a friendly new hangout with consistant traffic
Late night in SL? Looking for something to do? You can usually find a hopping dance floor at the Ambrosia Dance Club. The music depends on the DJ present but they do generally have DJs even in the wee hours. Lady GaGa was there on my visit (in the cyan blue), I detest her but fortunately she didn’t attempt to “sing”. My partner is still away so I couldn’t get his opinion on this venue. I prefer it to say…Dance Island but would like more consistancy to the music. The music during my visit was modern rock & dance with some oldies and an occasional vulgar hip hop song tossed in. Dancing for couples and singles are available. Give it a try? Follow the red carpet from the tp point to get to the club. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ambrosia20Club/55/150/304

Laurel’s Places to Go – Star Dance Dome
Tonight, my friend DJ Julianna Michigan will be playing music from the 60’s -90’s at the Star Dance Dome from 1 to 3PM on the Main Floor, Thursday also at that same time. Tonight, there will be a special Romantic Love Songs music set from 7 to 9pm SLT Upstairs in the Romantic Area. This cozy spot has cuddle couches, all sorts of the best couple slow dances and even a cute yellow dog to pet. A great occasion to take your special someone to or if your special someone is away but you still enjoy love songs…you can come to listen as I will this evening. I love mushy love songs even when Sir Nitram can’t share them with me so I’ll be there to support my favorite DJ. The Star Dance Dome is a new venue in Second Life so it is somewhere your date wouldn’t have already been to. So surprise with a new romantic spot or dance downstairs with the singles to meet some new friends. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Atlantic%20Beach/1/160/22
Nitram and I came across Pixel Hill when he was searching for some music we could enjoy together. Yes, it was his find. *smiles* It’s not a huge venue as far as Live Music goes so it keeps a cozy feel like you would find at your local pub. I rather liked that. The building is made of stone and well weathered wood worn smooth by lots of dancing feet. Both single and couples dancing is available at this venue. At the door, you can find a poster with upcoming events at Pixel Hill as well as a free concert HUD you can wear. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Strayling/228/34/53/ Dann Numbers (shown below) was playing when Nitram and I were there. Dann had a good clear voice and really kept us entertained. He was fun as well as good to listen to. We would definately go see him again. From his bio: Dann is attempting to become SL’s first prophet of rock and soul…rocking his acoustic all over the place – check http://www.sonicbids.com/dannrusso for the full SL schedule, and if you are an owner who wants to book a show, please IM Dann.
Looking for something different? Tired of the same old music? Try the Reggae music at Irie Vibes! I know I wasn’t quite dressed for the place but I didn’t quite know where I was going when I accepted the teleport. Yeah, that’s the excuse I am going with. Irie Vibes provides a bright cheerful atmosphere with happy Reggae to dance to. I like to experience new places and new music so it was a good place to visit. Often live DJs are available but if one isn’t available at the time of your visit, there is still a very good music stream. Time slipped quickly away as my date and I chatted about all sorts of subjects, as we gently swayed to the music. Had a great time so wanted to share this new to me place in Second Life.
Yesterday, I managed to catch Rich Desoto at Fibber Magees on the Dublin 3 sim. Rich did a fantastic job! He has a real way of working the audience. It was a small audience this time but we were all mentioned by name and some of us had our names put in a song. His original songs are delightful and he’s a can’t miss artist in Second Life. The really nice thing about the Dublin sims is something is always going on during UK hours at the three venues there plus things like fashion shows and parades on the city streets. Join the group at the Blarney Stone Pub to get notices of everything going on in the Dublin sims. Often there are Live Music performances, DJs, Coffee Hours for chat and other events. A good group to join to find things to do in Second Life. FROM HIS BIO: A music major trained as cellist, Rich Desoto aka Rich Palmer plays guitar for “Knight Blaze”.
Yes, I know I already reviewed this place recently but I was there again in the early AM to dance a bit and enjoy the music. Can you believe there were people on the dance floor at 2AM SLT? This is the Nightclub dancing area, surrounded by those beautiful blue waterfalls. It’s a big sim with lots to see and do as a couple or single as I am this AM. That’s me in the white pants suit. If you are looking for some music and a place to dance that isn’t totally deserted at those odd times. Try Midnight Reflections! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Midnight%20Reflections/65/125/25/
Blue Fusion is a Jazz Club in Second Life but you will find much more than just jazz here. You can find a full calendar of events here at http://www.bluefusionsl.com/index.php?page=schedule featuring both live music preformances and DJs. The club has a full bar, numerous dances and welcomes both couples and singles. Great hosts here and the music has always been very good. I can particularly recommend that you stop in Friday mornings at 8am SLT for the Blue Fusion Morning Coffee Mix with James Larkin. A real friendly bunch of regulars are about for that! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blue20Island/53/12/22/
Fantastic time this afternoon at the set of Loopy’s Celtic Muse! As you can see, the pub was packed as we all danced to the marvelous music. The Blarney Stone is one of my places I like to go when alone. The conversation is good and I feel comfortable here always. I wasn’t exactly alone…he was on IM while he worked on a building project so he was still very close by just an IM away. *smiles* Great Irish music in Loopy’s music set so always enjoyable and different from the normal SL fare. Do stop in at the Blarney Stone Pub and join the group to be informed of all events in the Dublin sims. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Dublin/83/80/25/
Del and I found the ultimate party boat in Cruise-Aiders! It’s a club on a yacht which features popular music from the 70’s and 80’s. It’s a hopping place most times day or night with many of the popular DJs from around Second Life playing here. You might see DJ Troy or DJ Loa from the UGC of the London sim playing here for example. Cape Cruise itself has some great shopping with the shops close enough together to make it nice to stroll around and see what they have available. (Some shops still available for rent.) A very pleasant and well landscaped environment with amusements such as a pool, beach, 7 Seas Fishing, Jetskis, skydiving and boats are also available for your entertainment. This sim is also home to Corsage Ballroom (to be covered in a post in the works) and Sea Breeze Restaurant. A DJ and Hosting School is available to help provide much needed education to help you land that Second Life job you had in mind. You can see Del and I enjoying the music in the club in the picture below, as Cruise-aiders has become a new favorite for us. General chat here is very friendly and often very funny to join in on. Del and I have made a few visits here and have recommended the club to some friends who have also enjoyed their time here. Don’t miss out on the action yourself! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cape%20Cruise/120/133/26/ The SLURL takes you to a sign with teleports built into it (the green balls next to the text) that will allow you to jump to the various locations on the Cape Cruise sim or stroll through to take in the scenery along the way as this sim is nice to explore as well.
I don’t know how long this place has been around but I like the set up of it. I visited in the wee hours of the American morning so can’t gauge at all the amount of traffic it gets. It’s a romantic series of dance floors surrounded by high stone walls on two sides and shops on the others. A good variety of dances available including some new to me. Like the circle dance? Check out the little curtained enclosure to share a kiss or two. I also spotted two argue poseballs…I guess we know their function. I’ll have to catch Del in a rare bad mood to fully give those poseballs a test. *laughs* Plenty of room to spread out for a bit of privacy while you enjoy dancing. Slow Radio was the music playing when I arrived to scout out this location. It’s a pleasant relaxing atmosphere to enjoy with someone very special or get to know someone new. A nice alternative to the jazz clubs and dress can be casual or formal depending upon your mood. Some new Greek dances here you can try with a group of friends or with newly made ones. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Breezy%20Shores/43/170/22/
If you haven’t yet caught a set by DJ Mike Umaga at London’s Underground Club you should! He’s there 12-2 PM SL Tuesdays with 80’s ( the Flashback), Thursday 2-4 PM SL The best Trance ( The Trance~N~Dental Highway) and Saturday 12-2 PM SL Trance. You may have seen Mike in action at the Second Life 5th Birthday Party on Stage 2 or caught him as the closing act. Due to RL time constraints DJ Mike only plays at the Underground Club so it’s YOUR place to see him. I admit I didn’t care for Trance before and used to stream my own music when Del wanted to listen to Trance but DJ Mike got me into Trance with his shows so I listen now and enjoy. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Knightsbridge/181/113/22/
Laurel’s Picks of Places to Go – Phat Cat’s Jazz Club
http://slurl.com/secondlife/PhatLand/101/122/28/ Phat Cat’s Jazz Club isn’t a place we frequent often but it is a place Del did go to more in his SL past so worth a mention for those of you looking for an elegant place that features jazz music. I’ve been there but once with Del then a second time to make sure the landmark was correct for this post. It’s a very detailed lounge setting that takes some time to load but once loaded for you runs pretty smoothly unless you are on a lower end computer. There is a stage for live performances, which the coming attractions poster at the door says when those are. A swanky bar to hang out at and tables frame the large dance floor for chatting with friends or waiting for your date to arrive. No litter of dance balls on the floor, a floating golden star overhead will generate poseballs for you at a touch. It’s a nice system that allows you to change dances without switching poseballs. A posh place to go with a date but Del also says it functions as a “meat market” for singles. Based on Del’s observations of the place I would say it would be good for couples or singles to visit just don’t forget your formal wear. Enjoy!
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tropical20East/35/31/23/ You can find a variety of music to dance to at Cafe Casablanca. Sunday-Strings, Monday- The Blues, Tuesday-Latin Beat, Wednesday-Big Band, Thursday-Ladies of Song, Friday-The Crooners and Saturday is a Musical Potpourri. Posted along the wall by the enterance you can get the times and dates for live music shows at the Cafe. A new sign posted at the door states no jeans so their dress code had changed that much since our last visit in the picture. That isn’t such a bad thing that they are trying to keep dress to formal or semi-formal. Room to dance inside and a cuddle and conversation area can be found outside next to the beach. The Cafe will celebrate it’s 1st Year at the same location in August so it has some staying power! It is the only business on a residential sim so lag is not to be found here like some other places. The simple yet elegant decor at Cafe Casablanca also helps to keep lag low without sacrificing atmosphere. If you have a lower end computer the Cafe is a better choice for you than some of the larger clubs like Bogart’s or Frank’s
Laurel’s Pick of Places to Go – Orleans Distillery
Like Southern Blues music? Never heard it but wanted to sample it? Try the Orleans Distillery! In this detailed Riverfront build by Gospel Voom is a Blues joint for couples or singles. The huge copper kettles used for making the booze served here is a very nice touch as well as the vents in the floor with steam rising from them. Fantastic atmosphere for a down home southern dancing venue! Just outside and to the left down the dock you can view the riverboat Natchez, you can walk aboard and try your luck with one of the games on the boat or just admired this lovely boat. Just across the River is the New Orleans Blues sim which is very detailed and perfect for a walk about to take in the sights. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mississippi/214/239/22/
