Bali is renowned throughout the archipelago of Indonesia and overseas for their handicrafts . You could say that Bali is a mecca for arts and handicrafts. You might browse what is on offer in the Kuta area, but if you want the genuine article and not just a ‘copy’ [as so often seen in the tourist strip] it is far better to visit the village of origin for the particular handicraft you re seeking.

There are times when one just doesn’t feel like tramping around the various markets in the tourist strip of Bali ; that relentless search for a cool T-Shirt or a pair of boardies or even handicrafts.

There were two places I wanted to visit when I visited Lombok ; the traditional weavers of Sukarara and the pottery at Banyumulek . Fortunately I was able to experience both of these places in the short time I had in Lombok. Banyumulek is one of the three major pottery villages on the island.

I 90 anni del Bauhaus e i 150 della sua Università a Weimar: due ricorrenze celebrate attraverso la riproposizione della storica mostra del Movimento Bauhaus tenutasi nel 1923 nella città tedesca di Weimar, gemellata dal 1995 con Siena. All’inaugurazione organizzata dall’assessorato alle Attività internazionali in collaborazione con l’assessorato all’Urbanistica e alla Cultura, aperto al pubblico, hanno partecipato l’assessore all’Urbanistica Fabio Minuti, il sindaco di Weimar Stefan Wolf, il rettore dell’università Bauhaus e il curatore Norbert Korrek

La mostra che rimarrà aperta dal 13 marzo all’11 aprile 2010, ovvero subito dopo Pasqua, si svolge presso l’auditorium di San Gregorio ed è organizzata dall’associazione “Il Circolo delle Idee”, con il patrocinio e la collaborazione del Comune di Pienza, del Museo Diocesano di Pienza, della Provincia di Siena, della Società delle Pie Disposizioni di Siena e delle Apt di Chianciano Terme e di Siena. In mostra oltre 70 bozzetti e locandine di uno dei più famosi cartellonisti del cinema, che ha ritratto Anna Magnani, Totò, Jack Lemmon, De Sica, John Wayne, Paul Newman, Marcello Mastroianni e Sofia Loren.

Da domani un’installazione insolita accoglierà i visitatori all’interno del Duomo di Siena: l’artista Emilio Farina, propone un progetto site-specific sul fronte della berniniana Cappella del Voto trasformando la temporanea situazione di disagio in un’occasione di arricchimento formale e di momentanea sperimentazione. Grazie al sostegno dell’Opera del Duomo, l’artista ha dimostrato ancora una volta che è possibile eseguire impegnativi interventi su monumenti, senza che l’inevitabile ingombro del cantiere costituisca una diminuzione dei valori del contesto. Per questo progetto Emilio Farina ha realizzato, sulle strutture esterne del cantiere, un’ opera d’arte contemporanea che interagisce con l’antico che ha, per il limitato tempo dei lavori, il raro privilegio di confrontarsi con i massimi capolavori conservati all’interno della chiesa.
