JFK International Airport will temporarily close its largest runway in March
We’ve seen a few delays due to security , but that’s not the reason that New York’ s JFK Airport is anticipating delays. As of today, JFK International Airport has announced that its largest runway will be experiencing delays due to major renovations. The runway, which currently handles one-third of the airports traffic and slightly more than one half or its departures will temporarily be shut down in March, and renovations are expected to last for four months, according to USA Today

After a judge squashed the planned British Airways union strike scheduled for the week of Christmas, BA union and crew members vowed to reclaim their place on the picket line following the holidays. News from the Unite union – the union representing the BA cabin crew – is that the new strike will take place in the next few weeks. Under law the unions must give the airline at least a week’s notice, so the planned date of Jan.

Airlines set on-time records in November
We may be seeing a bit of airline delays in the wake of the Christmas Day scare, but according to the Associated Press, the government says that our nation’s airlines have set an on-time record in November 2009. MSNBC reports that the Transportation Department says that 88.6 percent of November flights arrived on time, which beats the record set in September 2008 for 88 percent of on time arrivals. Some say that the good status is due to the recession with a sharp decline in traffic, but with the Thanksgiving holiday, airlines continued to stay on their marks

While in-flight theft is rare, French officials are currently investigating whether a pickpocket stole thousands of Euros from passengers as they slept on a recent overnight flight from Tokyo to Paris. French newspaper Le Figaro reports that approximately 4,000 Euros (USD $5,744) appear to have been stolen from five business class passengers as they slept on the overnight Air France flight. Most cases of in-flight theft aren’t discovered until the victim has deplaned, and by that point passengers have gone in many different directions, making it nearly impossible to identify a suspect. Here are a few precautionary measures to avoid becoming a victim of a high-altitude heist: 1. Keep your cash, wallet, purse, passport and other sensitive information in a discreet pocket, money belt or shoe. In-flight thieves often target overhead bins.

Newark Airport goes on lockdown for small security breach
In the wake of the Christmas Day bomb scare, Newark Airport recently went on lockdown for six hours in response to a man who unknowingly walked through a secure area in the airport’s Terminal C. Thousands of passengers arrived at their destinations as late as last night, and were subjected to massive crowding and lack of resources both in the airport and on planes.
