Check-in agents, baggage handlers and back-room staff could be asked to help serve drinks, prepare the cabin and work at 35,000-feet after cabin crew union leaders announced plans for a new strike ballot. The TimesOnline published the following statement from Willie Walsh, BA’s chief executive: “I am asking for volunteers to back BA by training to work alongside cabin crew who choose not to support a strike, so we are ready to keep our customers flying as much as we possibly can if this strike goes ahead.” A judge banned the originally planned strike that was scheduled to take place over the Christmas holiday, but now Unite (the union that represents the BA cabin crew) says that it will re-ballot 13,000 cabin crew on the possibility of another strike
