2009’s “Miss Scuola Leonardo Da Vinci”
It was a hot summer night outside, but everyone from school was keeping cool with cold drinks and good food, in the anticipation of the 2009 Miss Scuola Leonardo Da Vinci . Every year the school hosts this contest as a fun way for students to give special recognition to their friends and classmates for their effort in class. Some people already knew each other from their morning and afternoon lessons, but there were many new faces who participated too. New students and veteran students of all ages, friends of Scuola Leonardo Da Vinci and other Italian people from Milan all came out for the event. It was a great group of people and even greater occasion for everyone to come together, have fun and meet new friends. There were 20 student contestants representing the countries of Austria, Philippines, Japan, Spain, England, Russia, Canada, Korea, Israel, Lithuania and United States. Each potential “Miss” got to walk down the sidewalk runway outside of the Mayflower Pub to the applause of all her friends and fellow students, as she let them know how much she wanted their vote.

No Bacon in Sight at Fukagawa for a Traditional Japanese Breakfast
Traditional Japanese breakfast definitely strays from the Western tradition of bacon and eggs, pancakes and waffles and in fact, is more like a meal you’d have for lunch or even dinner. In doing research to find out what restaurant serves a Japanese breakfast in the LA area, one place came up over and over and that was Fukagawa in the city of Gardena. So one early morning, a few members from my dining group made the trek out with me to this South Bay restaurant

¡Baja Delicioso! Introduction and the Ultimate Carne Asada Taco at Tacos El Poblano
Steamed Mussels from Muelle Tres in Ensenada A couple of years ago, I met Bill aka Street Gourmet LA through a mutual friend and ever since then, my association with him has enabled me to experience some truly exquisite Mexican cuisine outside of LA, specifically in Tijuana, Guadalupe Valley and Ensenada. The first time I went down Baja Way with Bill, I was amazed! My second visit with him was just as exciting. However, my third visit was truly epically mind-blowing and it made me fall even more in love with the food along the Baja Coast of Mexico

Beta Launch of FeedmailPro.com! (With Demo VIDEO)
This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series FeedmailPro.com Last week I told you about a new project I was working on, and I wanted to give you a sneak peak at how it’s going! WARNING: this is a beta launch, and the site is still being developed. So I DON’T recommend you start using it for your main newsletter or move your list over yet. This is just for testing purposes. I also ask that you don’t post about it anywhere else yet. I want to keep the beta launch small and manageable (besides, it will be much more profitable for you to post about it once I have the affiliate program set up!) Lots of things will be changing going forward. A couple points worth mentioning: 1.

Stop Talking About It And Just Build It
Saw this great video about Facebook’s development team today. Got me thinking…more companies need to think like this. Focused, uninterrupted work is the greatest gift you have…but how often do we really do it? Generally speaking, if you are answering your phone, opening snail mail, chatting, emailing, even talking with other people at all…you are NOT working. Sorry to say it but you’re not. Work is when you are alone, by yourself in your room, with all communication devices turned off. 20 minutes later you’ll actually be in the zone and then you’re really working. That’s when you get real writing done. That’s when you can strategize about the next moves for your company. That’s when you can design great marketing. That’s when you can design great art or great engineering. That’s where breakthroughs happen. That’s when you see connections between completely different ideas and how they could be better together. That’s when you really produce instead of just reacting to things all day

HOW TO STUDY LA DOLCE VITA IN SIENA? Ten steps to experience Siena and the Sienese life
When I first mentioned the name of the course I was going to follow in Siena to one of my best friends, she only giggled. La dolce vita, that’s nothing you can learn – in her opinion. But trust me: once you enter the magical world of this course, the Italian way of life will have an everlasting influence on everything you’ll do! La dolce vita definitely is not the same as the famous dolce far niente

Total Expenses Living In Buenos Aires Last Month: $1,018
This entry is part 5 of 5 in the series Living Abroad I just finished doing my financial statements for last month, and was pretty happy when I noticed that it only cost a total of $1,018 USD for me to live and work in Buenos Aires last month! That’s really cheap, certainly much cheaper than living in the U.S. This proves the point I wrote about a while back , which is that it really isn’t that expensive to travel the world if you do it right. How can you afford to travel the world

Reader Question: How To Start A Coffee Shop
Check out this question from a Breaking Free reader… Hey Brian, I have been thinking about opening a coffee shop, not long actually probably for this past month, Im 21 years old and currently part of an internship. I have a lot of time to plan, and research, but I cant seem to grasp what exactly I need to do. The obvious would be taking a basic course in business, however, in the meantime… Do you have any suggestions on what I should start learning, if I am someday to own a coffee lounge

Shrimp and More at Mariscos Chente
If I had to choose my favorite non-fish seafood, it would be shrimp all the way and if you’re a shrimp lover like me, than Mariscos Chente should be on your to go list. I had actually paid a visit to the Marsicos Chente location in Lennox a few months back and loved my meal there, so I was really interested in seeing if the consistency would be the same at their other location in Mar Vista. Bill aka Street Gourmet LA made all the arrangements for our meal there and what a feast it was.

The Surprising, But Fun Flavors of Paciugo Gelato
Summer is around the corner, which means cones dripping with ice cream will soon be the rule and not the exception, although with me, it could be 20 degrees below outside and as long as I’m warm and toasty inside, ice cream would still be my favorite sweet treat. To jump start ice cream season, I set up a gelato and sorbet tasting for my dining group at Paciugo Gelato in Hermosa Beach owned and run by daughter and mother team, Brittny Thacker and Monien Ibarra, respectively

Already Planning a Return Trip to Natalie Peruvian Seafood Restaurant
I’m sure everyone can relate to having show tickets and trying to figure out where to grab a bite to eat beforehand. That was my dilemma as I was rushing from work to meet a couple of friends and of course, on my way there, I got a call with the inevitable question, “Where should we eat?” Given that the show was at the Pantages Theater, which isn’t too far from Thai Town, a Thai restaurant was the obvious choice, but for once, I wasn’t in the mood for Asian food

Italian language course for Teachers: read our STUDENTS’ OPINION!
Our Teacher Carla from Scuola Leonardo da Vinci Florence asked his students attending the course for Italian language Teachers held in October 2008 an opinion about their experience at Scuola Leonardo.

Checking Out the Summer Select Prix Fixe Menu in The Dining Room
After I blogged about the Chocolate Afternoon Tea at the Langham Hotel , I was invited back to check out the Summer Select Prix Fixe Menu at their restaurant, The Dining Room. Again, I have to say thanks to Tara of When Tara Met Blog and the Langham Hotel . Given that The Dining Room was the only hotel restaurant to receive a Michelin star in 2008 under Executive Chef, Craig Strong, I was really looking forward to the meal; however, I should note that by the time I dined at The Dining Room, Chef Strong had taken a new position with Montage Hotels in Laguna Beach
