Dear Diary…

I am away from my home.  I have a scheduled flight to return as I am in paradise, but I’m anxious and frustrated.  I want an earlier flight. There is a two-hour flight earlier and my only choice is to head there and wait.  I have to accept this method called standby.  I arrive to the airport for this earlier flight.  I arrive at the gate hoping that I’m accepted and taken on the earlier flight to my destination.  To my “home.”  I am on a beautiful beach, a city full of sunshine, yet I want to be “home.” I check in.  I go to my terminal.  I am told without reassurance to sit and wait for my name to be called.  I wait.

Intimacy With Christ- The Nature of Christ-2

Intimacy With Christ Sometimes Means That Jesus Will “Show-Up” In The Midst Of Our Conventional Wisdom To Do Or Say Something That “Counters” Us To Draw Us Into Following Him- To Draw Us To Himself More Deeply Than We Imagined Possible. Jesus Fills the Empty Boat After a Night of Total-waste   One day Jesus was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret while the people pushed their way up to him to listen to the word of God.

Come Closer and Know Me, Man…

Christmas trees line the streets, like cadavers after a plague.  “Bring out your dead,” the cryer calls and out the dead come, symbols of the spirit of the holiday.  We pass them by, our only thought for them being “Poor bastards.  Never had a chance.” Some said the Holiday spirit died again this year.  Some said it never came.  It was mired in economic disaster, fringe lunatics lighting fires that they couldn’t put out again, television specials that played to the season but somehow were different.  The holiday spirit was stuck in transit, having taken it’s shoes and coat off, removed its laptop from the bag and discarded all of its liquids before the checkpoint. And it won’t be back until Halloween, and even then it will be forced, manufactured and failed and once again folks will wonder where the meaning of the season went. False cries of a War against a single holiday will rise up, cacophonous in it’s fury, while others solemnly review the past year and the year to come

Makurdi Airport To Be Opened For Civil Operations

There are reports that Makurdi Airport will be opened for civil operations. The military will soon conclude an agreement with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). Airports Rallying to Help Haiti’s Airport

I don’t think it is possible to watch the coverage of the earthquake in Haiti and not be touched.  The physical, human and emotional devastation can’t be measured – and it is certain that things look and feel much worse on the ground than they do on television.  Haiti's airport before the earthquake. ACI-NA is working together with ACI-Latin America/Caribbean to marshal the experience and capabilities of the North American airport community to provide assistance.  Currently, the U.S. military is ensuring that the airport can handle flows of supplies that are required for immediate humanitarian needs and the FAA has sent inspectors.  ACI-NA has been in close touch with the Departments of State and Transportation, and the FAA, and the Canadian Airports Council has been in touch with the Canadian government.  There will be many needs that have to be met in the days, weeks and months ahead, and the airport community in North America is prepared to do its part.  We will work closely with our colleagues at ACI-Latin America/Caribbean.  As after Katrina, we will also be working with the American Association of Airport Executives to establish a fund to accept contributions to assist with the humanitarian need of airport employees and their families in Haiti.  We will get that information to you as soon as possible.  In the meantime, you can visit our website ( www.aci-na.org ) which contains a “Help for Haiti” link if you would like to make a contribution to one of the many organizations providing assistance there.  It is hard to imagine what the people of Haiti are going through right now.  It is at least re-assuring to know that the North American airport community is ready and willing to do its part

Intimacy With Christ- What’s Your Life Motto?

The Apostle Paul– “That I may know Him…” YWAM- To Know God and to Make Him Known Jesus- “That they may know You, the Only True God; And  Jesus Christ Whom You have sent.” What’s Your Motto for Life??? I’ve heard many Christian mottos, read many Christian mission statements and watch believers put this or that at the center as a “Motto to Live By” So far, my favorite- and it’s quite simple is “To Know God and To Make Him Known.” It seems to summarize what Jesus would want for us.   Tonight I was discussing intimacy with Christ and how we put this or that Christian ethic at the center leaving the Triune God out as a central theme, purpose, mission, destiny, or adventure. I mentioned that how we have often put good Christian “commandments” at the center and have pushed out the pursuit of “Intimacy With Jesus Christ.” One thing we all need to be aware of when making a choice as to what’s central in the Christian life is not to isolate a verse

The United States  responded with a swiftness that should be commended from the ordinary people who are donating their service, resources and money, the President Barack Obama and the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are leading the charge this must give the Haitians some sign of hope in this one of their saddest days. Think of the son or daughter that has lost a mother or father in all this chaos food, water and shelter will prove difficult to find

Number of bird-plane collisions on the rise, analysis finds

Little surprise here, given better human reporting and the increasingly crowded skies, especially near airfields. I remember fielding media queries at an Air Force base some years ago after a fighter jet’s engine sucked in a pigeon, disabling the jet nd costing a bunch of dollars to fix. Suvarhabhumi Airport

Lagerlad loves Suvarnabhumi Airport! Having recently survived the horrors of Heathrow and LAX, the Lagerlad has had it with airports in the west! Yes, its had its fair share of technical dramas but there’s something to be said about the scale and ambition of the architecture that envelopes this outstanding facility. Suvarnabhumi is what an airport should LOOK and FEEL like!

My new hip and a whole body scanner

Flew back home Monday from Indianapolis and, of course, the hip set off the metal detector.  So, I was invited to step into a body scanner they have there.  The whole thing went smoothly, they got the green light signaling that I was ok, and off I went.  The checkpoint at Indy is pretty roomy, so they have space for the machines and it worked great.   A TSA employee, shown from the back, as he stands in an airport whole-body imaging machine. My wife was also invited to use the machine, though she has her original hips.  She also reports that it was a good experience, especially when I explained that the images are viewed by someone who cannot see her and they are not stored.  Feeling secure is very important to her, and she is someone who has good old middle American common sense.  So, the scanner machines passed the “Ann Principato test,” a tough test indeed.  (Yes, I know, some of you can’t believe that I passed her test.)  I can also tell you that the concessions program in Indy’s new terminal is terrific.  We patronized Wolfgang Pucks, Borders, Relay and the spa they have right next to the popcorn stand.  We have also previously eaten at Champs.  Very nice, passenger friendly, terminal
