On holiday in the white Peschici
Ideally, to live the life I dream about, I would live without money. However, in this big bad world, money is still a necessity. What I want to attempt to do is to use as little of it as I can, rather bartering and trading wherever possible. For instance, when guests come to stay in our guest cottage, I do not want to charge them cash. I would much rather they bring things to trade with, or even pay with goods (my friends tease me about asking for wine as a rental). I also want to attempt to make as much as I can from scratch – not buying prepared foods, and then pushing that thought further – to make our own soap etc. I know that I will not be able to grow and make everything initially – it is all going to take time and tons of learning. This then forces me back to needing some cash to pay for things I can not grow or make, as well as for water and electricity. I don’t think Eskom is going to be open to trading a few bunches of carrots for power somehow. We also have to pay a monthly levy to the conservancy where we live for the upkeep of the game. We may even be able to trade for that levy and are already in discussions about us doing game ranging on the reserve as well as keeping the reserve fencing maintained, filling waterholes etc. So the plan then is to trade with friends and family in exchange for guest accommodation, ask for cash from strangers for guest accommodation (or a combo of trade and cash). We will also be building a tented safari camp in the future for more accommodation.

I have spent the past few days researching the different availabilities and deciding which housing to put on my preference list. I am to pick 3 residential hall/building from the LSE-only accommodation and also 3 more from the University of London intercollegiate halls .

Despite some recent scaremongering in the local press, our BSF bid has been accepted by Government and the College is now fully engaged in the process of developing and updating plans and designs for the new build. The College plans continue to centre around a total rebuild of the school – the new building catering for 1200 11-16 students and a further 370 sixth-form students. We are currently working on the accommodation schedule – the number and size of all the classrooms and facilities

That is because it forms part of a nature reserve, the boundary of which is shown by the blue line. The red dot on the final picture shows where our cottages are built. To look closer, please click on the pictures (I hope that works?) We moved in this last weekend!!!!!!! before getting too excited, we are still waiting for the transfer but have been given occupation of three of the four cottages for now. They are really in bad shape and there is going to be a ton of work for us – luckily we can do this over the next few years. This weekend we scrubbed and washed and got rid of 80% of the dirt layers. At least for now it is habitable. As I said in a previous post – the place looks way better with a little green (summer). here are some summer pictures.

When the weather is not great it is time to retreat inside for a long lunch, a bottle of wine and some good laughs Although the dreaded “R” word was predicted for early this morning, everyone was pleasantly surprised to wake up to about 10cm of snow on the ground. It was quite heavy snow but the crew that got out there early were rewarded with fresh tracks.
